Overlook Elementary School participated in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Junior Flower Show, with over 400 students from first to sixth grades creating floral arrangements, mosaic art with grains, prints using fruits and vegetables, and “creative critters” with natural materials as well as detailed botanical drawings. This year’s theme is “Holland Flowering the World” and many of the Overlook projects reflected this theme.
During the many rainy, snowy days, projects were done during indoor recess, and with the Nature Adventure Club. The Nature Adventure Club and Overlook Flower Show are coordinated by teacher Mrs. Ellen Brown. Overlook students were complimented by the PHS judges for fine work, and enthusiasm. PHS judges visited the school and evaluated all entries, with students earning blue, red, green or white ribbons.
Community partner, Kremp Florists, helped first to fourth graders create unique floral arrangements to the joy of the students at Kremp’s location. Channel 6 news featured the Overlook Junior Flower Show on the 5:30 newscast on Wednesday, February 22nd.
Overlook principal, Dan File, encourages creativity and even joined the students at Kremp’s to make a floral arrangement! The “Best of Show” entry by sixth grader Zoe Perry will be shown at the Philadelphia Flower Show and seen by hundreds of thousands of guests. The entry will be judged for additional honors.
Congratulations to all participants; the effort of all the students truly created Best in Show!
