In preparation for the start of the 2022-2023 school year, at the August 9, 2022, meeting of the Board of School Directors, Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher recommended the appointments of several new administrators, all of whom were approved by the Board.
“Abington School District is fortunate to have a highly qualified, diverse, and experienced team of educators, so I have no doubt that these newly appointed administrators will be dedicated to their leadership roles and responsibilities,” Dr. Jeffrey Fecher, Superintendent of Abington School District, said. “From our school principals, to our elementary curriculum specialists, all of our staff members are critical players in delivering on Abington School District’s promise of excellence and achievement for all students.”
School Principals
Mr. Daniel Oldham, most recently principal of Overlook Elementary School, was appointed to the open principal position at McKinley Elementary School. Mr. Oldham had previously been Assistant Principal at Abington Junior High School and a teacher at Copper Beech Elementary School prior to his role at Overlook. Mr. Oldham earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Delaware and his master’s degree in educational leadership from Delaware Valley University.
Ms. Karima Boyd, most recently Elementary Curriculum Specialist (ECS) at Overlook Elementary School, will become the school’s principal. She has more than two decades of teaching experience in Abington elementary schools, and was nominated by a former student as one of the Philadelphia Phillies’ All-Star Teachers for 2021. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Howard University, a master’s degree in education from Gratz College, and a Pennsylvania principal certification that she earned at Delaware Valley University.
Elementary Curriculum Specialists (ECS)
Filling Ms. Boyd’s previous position as ECS at Overlook Elementary School will be Mr. Richard Welsh, who has most recently served as McKinley Elementary School’s ECS. Mr. Welsh also has six years of experience as a teacher at Willow Hill Elementary School. He attended Gwynedd-Mercy University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, a Master of Arts in educational leadership, and a principal certification.
Ms. Tamika Holland, most recently an itinerant mathematics teacher at Copper Beech and Highland elementary schools, was appointed to the role of ECS at McKinley Elementary School, where she previously spent five years as a teacher. She is a graduate of Arcadia University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education, before pursuing her master’s degree in educational leadership at the university, as well as her principal certification.
