Students and staff at Copper Beech Elementary School got into the Thanksgiving spirit by celebrating one of the students’ favorite traditions: The Turkey Bowl! The 2019 Turkey Bowl was celebrated the morning of Wednesday, November 27, 2019, ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Held in the gymnasium, the annual football tournament features teams comprised of the school’s seven, 6th grade classrooms. To kick-off the event, the Copper Beech school community was joined by Coach Kevin Conlin and the Abington Senior High School varsity football team, fresh off their successful Suburban One League championship season. The players promoted the concepts of good sportsmanship, goal-setting, teamwork and commitment to one’s community. The team also served as coaches, referees and scorekeepers for the games. The Copper Beech students were happy to welcome the older Ghosts to their school, and they had a chance to congratulate, and celebrate with, the players in recognition of their successful 2019 season. Additionally, in the spirit of community, gratitude and service to others during the Thanksgiving season, 6th graders collected canned goods that will be donated to a local food pantry.
