At a recent School Board meeting, Abington Senior High School principal Mr. Angelo Berrios recognized Mr. Daniel Marsh, Abington Junior High School physical education and health teacher and the Abington Senior High School Girls Basketball Coach.  For the last eleven years, Coach Marsh has built the Abington Girls Basketball program into a perennial powerhouse in Pennsylvania.  On January 7th, 2016, Coach Marsh reached a milestone in his coaching career.  On that night, the Lady Ghosts defeated Council Rock North, 56-45, for Coach Marsh’s 200th victory at Abington and 300th career win overall. Under his coaching, Abington achieved the school’s first Girls Basketball District Championship since 1975. As the tournament’s sixth seed, the Lady Ghosts were the lowest seed ever to win a District Championship.  The Lady Ghosts achieved ten straight District 1 playoff appearances, starting in 2007 and continuing this season.  The Abington teams coached by Mr. Marsh achieved five state playoff appearances in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014, and 2015.  The Girls Basketball team has also advanced to the quarterfinals of the State playoffs in 2014 and 2015.  Under Coach Marsh’s tutelage, six former Abington student-athletes have earned scholarships to Division 1 colleges.  In addition, nine student-athletes have continued their academic pursuits at various collegiate levels.  We are very proud that on the basketball court and in the classroom, Coach Marsh instills hard work and a sense of community to his players and students.  Shown here, Mr. Marsh (right) accepts Award Certificate of Appreciation from Principal Mr. Berrios (left).
