Abington Senior High School’s DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter recently received an Achievement Level award in the DECA membership campaign for 2021-2022. The results were announced on decadirect.org. This year the high school’s Business Department decided to switch the group from the the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) to DECA due to DECA’s robust conference offerings and engaging competitive events format.
Earlier this month, DECA chapter students were able to participate in their regional competitions thanks to the support of the high school’s community partners, who provided their industry expertise and guidance during the presentations, as well as, thoughtful, practical and meaningful mentorship during the Career Chatter that was held as a closing event.
Each year, DECA recognizes leading chapters that have built strong local programs focused on serving an exceptional number of members, advisors, alumni and business partners. These chapters and individuals dedicate their year to academic and career preparation, community service projects, membership recruitment, school outreach activities and other DECA-related endeavors. The chapter’s advisor and student leaders have demonstrated extraordinary commitment to DECA.
DECA’s membership campaign is designed to help chapters grow by making the DECA experience available to more student members, keeping alumni involved and engaging professional members such as administrators, teachers, parents and business partners.
“At the onset of this school year, I was anticipating a chapter of 45-50 members. We ended up having 90 registered competitors,” said Ms. Amanda Davoli, Business Education teacher and DECA chapter advisor.
Of the 3,000 DECA chapters, only 450 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s chapter campaigns, and only 775 chapters earned recognition in DECA’s membership campaign.
