At the May 25, 2021, meeting of the Board of School Directors, Dr. Jeffrey Fecher, superintendent, announced that Mr. Daniel Oldham would become the principal of Overlook Elementary School in the 2021-2022 school year, following the departure of Mr. Joshua Perlman, who has accepted a position in another school district.

Mr. Oldham currently serves as an assistant principal at Abington Junior High School, and prior to that had spent nearly a decade as a teacher at Copper Beech Elementary School. Mr. Oldham earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Delaware and his master’s degree in educational leadership from Delaware Valley University.

Mr. Oldham will work side by side with Mr. Perlman over the last few weeks of the current school year to ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Oldham has met with the teachers and staff of the school this week, and he looks forward to introducing himself to students.

Promoted into Mr. Oldham’s position at Abington Junior High School will be Ms. Tyheshia Carmichael, Elementary Curriculum Specialist at Roslyn Elementary School. She previously held that same position at Rydal Elementary School, after having served five years as a teacher at Highland Elementary School. Ms. Carmichael earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Arcadia University and her master’s degree in education from Gratz College.

Ms. Andrea Richards, a 5th grade teacher at Copper Beech Elementary School, will fill the role of Elementary Curriculum Specialist at Roslyn Elementary School following the departure of Ms. Carmichael. Ms. Richards has been with Abington School District for nearly a decade, after beginning her education career in Georgia. Prior to entering the field of education she served in the US Army National Guard for more than nine years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in science and psychology from Drexel University, her master’s degree in teaching from Mercer University, and a principal certification from Holy Family University.

Dr. Fecher said: “I thank Mr. Perlman for his leadership and service to the students and staff of Overlook Elementary School, and wish him the best of luck in his new role. I am equally proud to welcome Mr. Oldham, Ms. Carmichael and Ms. Richards into their new leadership positions. All three are exceptional educators, bringing deep breadths of experience to their respective school communities.”
