Dear Abington School District Families,
This afternoon, Governor Wolf made an announcement regarding the extension of the closure of schools in Pennsylvania, in response to social distancing guidelines released by The White House. As a result, all Abington School District schools, buildings and grounds will be closed indefinitely, and at least through April 30, 2020. We hope to have further definitive direction in the coming weeks on whether we will be able to reopen after that point.
Our entire Abington School District team is eager to get students back in the classroom, but the health and safety of our school community is paramount.
With this announcement, please anticipate that our continuity of education plan will be in place through the month of April. Today marked the first day “back to school” for our students, and I appreciate your flexibility as our administrators, teachers and staff navigate this remote classroom environment. We are coordinating and making adjustments, as needed, as we are committed to providing continuity of education for all our Abington School District students until we are able to reopen our schools.
I know that it may be difficult for many of us to navigate through this process while trying to keep our family and work lives moving forward. Today, while on one of my many Zoom meetings, my children both decided to practice separate instruments at the same time with different exercises. I am sure that all of you could provide at least one similar vignette. Please know that we recognize these challenges and are here to provide support for this newly adopted learning model. For tutorials, FAQs and other resources that might be helpful to your student and you as you navigate remote learning, please visit the Instructional Hub that is accessible via our Coronavirus Resource Center. As a reminder, please continue to see this page for ongoing updates and information.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s principal via email.
Regards,
Jeffrey S. Fecher, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
