Dear Abington School District Families,
In response to the direction of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, Abington School District’s closure of all schools will be extended through Monday, April 13, 2020. This means that we will not reopen next Monday, as we had tentatively planned, but rather will resume classes at the conclusion of our previously scheduled spring recess on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Please keep in mind this date is still tentative, as it will be dependent upon many factors locally and nationally over the next few weeks.
As Abington School District administration had been anticipating this decision and announcement, our teachers are preparing to provide continuity of education beginning on Monday, March 30th. Learning opportunities through digital platforms, in addition to offline activities, will be scheduled and supported by students’ teachers to promote continued academic growth.
I remind you that we previously provided enrichment activities that were recommended for students to complete on a voluntary basis, and at their leisure, through March 27th. Those activities were meant to reinforce previously learned skillsets. Beginning on March 30th, new teaching and learning will occur to move students’ instruction forward. Principals, teachers, and special education staff will provide further information and direction to you later this week.
As mentioned previously, we have reached out to families who do not have devices and/or internet access at home to coordinate logistics. Please know that we will continue our Chromebook and food distribution plan for our families in need.
Please remember to practice social distancing during this period of closure, and at the direction of Governor Wolf, there is a stay-at-home order in place in our county.
I again thank you for your patience during this period of fluctuation. We will continue to provide our community with updates at the earliest we are able, and will make those available via our Coronavirus Resource Center. As always, I wish health and safety for our students, staff and their families.
Regards,
Jeffrey S. Fecher, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
