During the week of September 23-27, schools across Abington School District participated in “Start With Hello” Week, an initiative to encourage connections and advocate for more inclusive practices for our children, ultimately strengthening our school climate. This is the second annual Start With Hello Week, an initiative created by the Sandy Hook Promise, a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members who lost loved ones at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.
All seven elementary schools in Abington School District, as well as Abington Junior High School, observed the week-long initiative, with different events and activities each day, such as Super Hero Day at Willow Hill Elementary School and Compliment Day at Overlook Elementary School. The activities are aimed at enabling students to make a difference with their peers in a simple, fun, and impactful way by encouraging them to take small, but powerful actions to promote connectedness and inclusion, and to identify and help others who are showing signs of isolation.
