On Wednesday, June 12, 2019, Abington Senior High School held its annual commencement ceremony, at which 556 members of the class of 2019 graduated, moving on to college and post-secondary education, careers and the Armed Forces. In addition, more than nine million dollars in scholarship money was awarded to the senior class.
Student speakers included valedictorian Brecon Hession and salutatorian Samantha Simon, with Andy Jeon and Rebecca Gable selected as the class speakers.
Many graduates used the ceremony as an opportunity to show off their creative skills by decorating their caps, which also helped them stand apart in the sea of seniors. Some used the 10×10″ mortarboard to showcase their future plans, while others decorated it in an inspirational or nostalgic fashion, and others went for humor, either through puns or quotable characters in Hollywood. From Mickey Mouse and SpongeBob SquarePants, to Michael Scott and Elle Woods, it was clear that the graduates tried their best at getting crafty on this momentous occasion, including using popular culture themes from the past year to influence their designs.
