On Thursday, April 5, Abington Junior High School hosted its second annual Buddy Walk in honor of World Down Syndrome Day.
World Down Syndrome Day, which was first observed in 2006 and recognized by the United Nations in 2012, aims to encourage people all over the world to choose their own activities to raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have it, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.
Students and staff at the Junior High not only planned the event in recognition of the observance day, but also in honor of the diversity and inclusion in Abington School District. In addition, the Walk was meant to highlight and celebrate the importance of being a “buddy.” This year, more than 150 students walked around the Junior High track and enjoyed refreshments as they chatted with new friends.
