The Abington Senior High School boys basketball team defeated Lower Merion High School to advance to the District 1 Class 6A championship game, scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at the Liacouras Center at Temple University.
The 72-61 win over the Aces pushes Abington to the District 1 final for the third time in the past four years. Robbie Heath was the leading scorer with 24 points, while Eric Dixon scored 22 points.
The Galloping Ghosts will face Plymouth Whitemarsh High School at 6 p.m. for the District 1 title on Saturday. Head Coach Charles Grasty and the team are competing for the fifth District Championship crown in the history of the boys basketball program at Abington, a title won in 1982, 1986, and more recently in 2015 and 2017.
Pre-sale tickets for the boys championship game will be available for $10 in the Senior High Athletic Office through 2 p.m. on Friday, March 2.
Fan buses will be exclusively available for Abington students, which will depart the Senior High at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Backpacks will NOT be permitted, and students taking the fan bus are required to return to the Senior High after the game. Student sign-ups will be held during all lunch periods on Thursday and Friday in Cafeteria A, and ticket money ($10) is due at the time of signup.
