On Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, McKinley Elementary School hosted its annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The assembly included a presentation of a mosaic completed by various student artists, a song performed by kindergarten students and their teachers, a dramatic enactment by sixth graders of a book about the courage of one voice, and a read aloud of how students can demonstrate Dr. King’s principles of peace, tolerance, and respect for diversity. In addition, third grade students designed “Peace Stamps” honoring Dr. King, which are included in this slideshow.

On Monday, Jan. 15, McKinley students then continued the theme of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day being “a day on, rather than just another day off,” by collaborating with the Abington Friends School to complete numerous service projects to support the broader school community. Students worked with their families to create blankets, decorate cookies, donate to a clothing drive, and participate in various other projects.
