McKinley Elementary participated in the 28th National African American Read-In during African American History Month. The Read-In was a significant component of McKinley’s celebration for African American History Month. Teachers in grades K-6 chose a book written or illustrated by an African American to read aloud to another class. After the Read-In, McKinley submitted the 2017 African American Read-In Host Card to the National Council of Teachers of English. Overall, the goal of the Read-In was to celebrate African American literacy.
