Highland Elementary School hosted a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Junior Flower Show today.  Students at Highland displayed artwork and plants in various Artistic and Horticulture classes.  Highland’s Best of Show will be on display at the Philadelphia Flower Show in March, 2017:  student Sloan Tyler’s entry was judged best for artistic class and student Charlotte Jones’ entry won for Horticultural Class. Mrs. Kelley’s class won Special Recognition for the windmill centerpiece.

In December, 2016, Highland announced its participation in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Junior Flower Show.  Students were encouraged to submit entries in twenty-three Artistic and Horticultural classes.  Highland students submitted entries from home or attended one of two workshops held after school at Highland. This year’s theme is “Double Dutch,” which celebrates the vibrant tulip fields, windmills, wooden shoes, and all of the cultural wonders of Holland.  The centerpiece of Highland’s Junior Flower Show is a Dutch-style windmill created by Mrs. Kelley’s 5th grade class totally from recycled materials and flowers.

Ms. Patricia Forrest and Ms. Francine Lee-Kim facilitated workshops that assisted  students in creating and assembling entries.   Materials were provided to assist students in creating their entries.

Highland’s Best of Show in Grades K-2, 3-5, and 6 will be on display at the Philadelphia Flower Show in March.
